Expedition Leader: Pat Falvey

Destination – South Georgia Crossing
Point of Origin- King Haakon Bay

November 2006

The primary objective as a national Irish expedition is to undertake and record the crossing of South Georgia with an Irish team from all over Ireland in honour of our Irish Antarctic explorers and adventurers. Also to make Irish public more aware of our Irish hero’s contribution to the heroic age of Antarctic exploration. Shackleton, Crean, Forde, Keohane, and the McCarthy Brothers.

A window of 3-5 days to cross the interior should be enough time to safely cross the Crean Glacier, Trident tower and Fortuna while the ship circles the north of the island as support. Finally the group will be picked up at Stromness

The retracing of Shackleton’s historic traverse.
