I was hoping someone here could answer my question. Within the last two years, I seem to recall a news story that reported that the mean thickness of the ionosphere had eroded 12 miles during a period of observation spanning a period of 45 years. My question(s) are:

1. Was that an accurate news story?

2. What was the mean/average thickness of the ionosphere in 1957-1959?

3. What has been the current mean/average thickness of the ionosphere over the last three years?

AND

4. What impact is loss in the volume of the ionosphere having on the production of upper atmosphere ozone?

I would appreciate direct answers to these questions or at the minimum, please direct me to where I can find the data.

Gee, I've had this question posted for over 3 weeks and there's been no reply. Is there a gag-order in place, or what? I really want an answer to that question.
